    problem playing MPEG

    Hi,

I have these two movie files that I can't play.
AVICodec says they are MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD) and supported but I get only the sound playing in WMP 6.4 and 7.

I tried opening the files in VirtualDub but they will only open if I check "pop-up extended open options" then "accept partial MPEG streams". If I try to preview the movie I get a message saying that the program can't create DIB section for input window.

WMP 6.4 says "Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format. (Erro=00040242)" and plays only sound.

Is there anything I can do to get the video playing?

Is there a way I can convert the movies to some other format that would allow me to play them in WMP?

I have TMPGEnc installed but I didn't try to open the movies with it..

Please would anyone just point me to how I could convert the movies to any other format that would allow me to play the movies in WMP?

What would be a good format and what program do I need?

UseUse FlaskMPEG to convert MPEG2 to AVi or MPEG1. And it can be played by old WMP.

BTW WMP 9 already had capability to playback MPEG2 !

why would you waste time and decrease the quality when using a different player would be a solution?

Cause o770 don't have dvd player software to playback MPEG2 !

Try zoomplayer or microdvd (freeware). I Suggest using WMP 9 (Free too !)

I'll try to convert them first.
I play all my movie files with WMP and I would prefer if I could convert the movies rather than installing another player only to play them.

I'll post back when I get them done.

well it turned out the movies were not worth the effort. I got to play them with FlasKMPEG.

                  Thanks for the replies!
