    Standard DVD player CD creation

I'm trying to understand if it is at all possible to burn a CD with mpeg-2 file format and be able to play it back on a standard DVD player, not a PC-DVD player. Is this at all possible given that the appropriate software and tools is acquired?
    Thanks..........

Sure. You just have to create an SVCD, which uses MPEG2 format. There are, however, two very important caveats:

    1) Make certain that your standalone DVD player can play SVCDs

    2) Moany standalone DVD players are "finicky" as to which brands of Cd-Rs they will recognize.

If you're not already familiar with it, I'd strongly suggest that you go to this site:

Video forums, video software downloads, guides, blu-ray players and media.

Despite the site's name, it contains a wealth of information about virtually every brand and model of standalone DVD player - including success of playing various brands of CD-Rs.

        Getting there

Well, I'm making good progress after tons of reading and getting up to speed on all the standards and methods.

I've been able to burn a DVD with the proper format, but as I have been told, some types of CD-R don't play in all stand alone players....as my luck would have it...the CD-RW I used didn't work on my stand alone DVD but did play off my computer's DVD drive.

I am going to try a CD-R only and see if my player prefers that type of disc.....would you happen to know if there is any brand of CD-R manufactured that is best suited to do this....it's a long shot, but if that doesn't work than at least the learning experience was a great one, I'm sucker for learning more.....I have a Philips 782H, 5 CD disc changer player....

Also, are you aware of other .avi to .MPEG2 encoders other than TMPGENC ?

        Thanks......

From my earlier response to you (check out the site):

Video forums, video software downloads, guides, blu-ray players and media.

Thanks for the info, I got my answers...I think...

Now, this is probably a stupid question but I'll ask it anyways. Can I buy a DVD-R or DVD-RW disk and burn it with my standard PC CD burner? I don't think I can but it's worth asking .....

The problem I have is that my standalone DVD player will only read DVD-x type medias, based on what I read....

            Thanks....
