    Audio problem with movies

    I am having a problem running a movie I downloaded. When it runs in Widows Media player there is no sound, I went and installed the AC3 codex and now it just crashes when it goes to play. i have a dell laptop Inspirion 8200. I used some of the programs including gspot, it says the codec is
    [ AC3 (0*2000) "Dolby Laboratories, Inc"
