Avi & dvd authoring?

Hey, i have a question that i couldnt really find the answer to. I want to create a dvd with menus So i got Ulead Dvd workshop. I have avi files (some anime so there divx ). With this type of software can you use the avi's and have it encode it by itself?. Or do i have to use other software to convert them to mpeg first then make the dvd? If there are any easier tools could you please let me know. thanks

I tried Sonic MyDVD for a while. It's a simple tool but it does the two things you mentioned:
1. It does menus,
2. It does the video format conversions for you (avi to dvd mpeg 2)

Other than that.. i found it too simple... not enough options.

Thanks guys I got everything to work. It wasnt that hard, ya i also would like to have a little bit more options but dvd workshop works really well for me

Thanks everyone, I like the simplicity of MyDVD, too. I was trying to use the authoring feature of Nero, but for some reason it could not create thumbnails from the video files. Am I missing a plugin?
