    VirtualDub audio ahead of video

    I am trying to chop a 710mb avi video and have followed the directions to the letter. However, I keep getting the audio ahead of the video. I have made sure that I start with and end with a key frame. The original is a very high quality video. I also have tried AVICHOP to break it into 2 parts but AVICHOP is not working well under Windows XP professional.

    My system stats are;
    XP Professional OS
    512mb RAM
    80 GB drive
    600mhz Pentium ///
    Asus Video Excelerator Card.

    Any suggestions.

    "However, I keep getting the audio ahead of the video"

    I assume you're simply cutting off the end credits in order to reduce the size to less than 700 Megs.

    1) Make certain that yuo've, from the "Video" dropdown selected "Direct Stream Copying" (rathet than the default "Full Processing Mode").

    2) If this still results in an unsynched file, how far ahead/behind is the audio running? If need be, you can load your NEW file into VDub (again, make certain that "Vidoe" is set to "Direct Stream Copying") and under "Audio", select "Interleaving" and adjust the audio position by using the "audio skew correction".

    Let us know of your success ;>}

      Or try Nandub ....................dunno why but i've read before that people were having out of sync after cutting with Virtual Dub and it was allright after doing so with Nandun
      BTW it is the same procedure in Nandub

      OR

      And -i haven't tried this one myself yet- use the newest version of Virtual Dub
      There is a 1.4.8 out in which they claim to have done something about the out of sync

      Anyway let us now how it goes

        Hay, thanks everyone. The person who suggested that my VirtualDub version needed updated to 1.4.8 was right on target. It appears that the authors of the Virtualdub has found a way to clean up problem audio. The new version poped up and told me that it found a problem with my audio in the AVI and was going to correct it. This corrected the problem and I was able to split the file. I also used Virtualdub to combine a split AVI back into a single AVI file. The program was extreamly quick and I did not loose any quality. It also seems to have solved the video freezes that I was experiencing. Thanks again.

        One other thing I tried with Virtualdub was to take a very large 1gb AVI and compress it to a DEVX format. This failed using Virtualdub. It reported that I was out of drive space which was not true. I suspect that I need to use another DIVX program to get the avi compressed and then work with it in Virtualdub. More work for me to do but you have to love the process! Thanks again.
