ASF and streams - Damn Miscrosoft

Well we all have seen or heard of the ASF file format.

Well I have a subscription to a site that gives video clips, but they are license protected using wmp licensing (or some kind of bs). the format is asf, and I was hoping to get any information to convert the video to a format that doesn't need to have the license, so that I can save it and not worry about reformating etc (license goes away any time you move to a new comp, or reformat obviously).

    1) Any information about ASF and licensing would be awesome.
    2) any way to convert through software means directly from one protected ASF to another format
    3) to capture the video while I play it and then save it as another format, through a third party software (almost like catpuring all actions that occur in the video card and then save it to a format, while still keeping it digital)

Any ideas guys....I hope this is the right spot for this.

You might try out Camstudio and see if that works for you.

I am not sure that I get the point of all this license stuff!!!

I am also not sure if I do violate some forum rules
trying to give an advice on how to get around all of this license
stuff since the copyright laws in my country may differ a lot from yours.but since you have paid or obtained that mediafiles legally....

maybe that common answer wil help you!

to reextract the video and audio wrapped in an
advanced streaming format file or WMA file you might give
ASF Tools a try, which can be obtained on the software
      section of this site.

note that you must have Windows Media encoder of versionnumber 6.5 (at least) installed to your system to
      make ASF tools work properly.
Windows Media encoder can be obtained at www.microsoft.com.

      good luck!

ASFRecorder should work nice for saving the files.
also, check out ASF sections of the DivxDigest's Software page

          Yeah Camstudio sounds perfect....

the problem with asfrecorder is (and i haven't tried it yet but) im not sure if it just takes the video after licensing has been confirmed and the new file made doesn't even deal with the license ever again/

Virtual Dub 1.3c (no later versions) supports .asf files. So using this you could convert it to your desired format.
