Gree Gunge

I have got two DivX files and both have green gunge on them.
The picture actually seems well defined but colours/backgrounds merge into the foreground.

I am playing them on Real One and Windows Media Player with the same result.

Does this effect come from being copied too many times or do I need different codecs or something

the next step is to try and turn it into a DVD. Any decent guides anywhere? I have found several DVD 2 DivX but not the other way round

You have but to ask -

One set of procedures (other posters may/probably will suggest alternative methods) would be:

1) Use "TMPGEnc" to convert the .AVI (DivX-compressed or otherwise) to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this

2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" v.1.5.11.37 (a different program than "TMPGEnc) to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)


**If the combined filesize of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress


If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode
(As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use "DVDLab")

Fallen at the first hurdle I'm afraid.

First of all I tried to use an old version of TMPGenc but I could not get it to open. I downloaded the latest trial but it would not recognise this file or any other DivX (.avi) file.

1) Load the video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

I could not do that...... I got an error message saying "Could not locate decompressor for format "XVid"(unknown)
Virtual dub requires a Video For Windows (VFW) codec. etc."

Hope that makes sense

As I suspected - Download and install an XviD (different than DivX) codec...

Well I am sort of there now. I have a DVD but I found that although I created a menu it did not come out on the final DVD & goes straight into the movie.
I used PowerDVD to check it and the menu played on the HDD but did not seem to connect to the movie & just switched off!!

I have aproblem with a few other other films but now I have the principle I will just need to look for other codecs i.e xvidmpeg-4 and divx50.

Another thing that happened was when checking another file in VirtualDub, I was told that there were errors so I fixed them and ended up with a .rmvb file which plays OK but can't do anything with it.

Finally I want to extend the life of TMPGenc so I guess I will have to stump up the money

Just one more question.

I have got an avi file that plauys ok and virtual dub says is compressed with XViDMpeg4 codec.
When I try to open it in TMPGenc it says it cannot open it or is unsupported.
What's going on there then?
