    Audio is too quiet

Hi, DVD's play quietly compared to the rest of the system volume, as I'm sure some of you've noticed...unless it's just this machine...in which case I shall throw it out the window.

Is there anyway I can boost the gain on the DVD playback?

I tried using the AC3filter, but that meant I had to use Zoom player and I like PowerDVD.

Oh and if anyone knows how to do the same for Winamp I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks.

    welcome to the forum!!!!

have you checked the little audio slider icon in your taskbar?
(lower right of your screen, its called the media mixer)

doubleclick on that and set wave output to full as well
    as the volume...
if you dont find it in your taskbar it also can be found
    in

    start --> settings-->systemsettings-->multimedia-->
audio---then dpubleclick the little slidericon (playback)
    and adjust as said above.....

unfortunatly powerdvd cyberlink does sell the audio decoding capabilities piece by piece......the standart
version is not able to decode all the audioformats.....
upgrade powerdvd or switch to windvd......

ps: dvds are normally more quiet than other audio sources....this is to avoid distortions in very loud parts
in the video such as explosion scenes or an aircraft passing by......etc...

Try using ac3 filter and in controlpanel>ac3filter config>uncheck normalize and move up the master volume. This will give louder
      sound

I've got the volumes on full, it's a SBLive! incase you're wondering.

I tried the AC3 filter thing but it doesn't do owt, probably cos PowerDVD is using it's own Audio filter.

Cheers anyway, any idea's about boosting the winamp volumes?

It's just because i have to wear headphones alot and these ones dont have volume control. Just my dad works shifts so I don't want to have the speakers going.

Sometimes with some cards like mine:SBLive Value, the latest drivers produce less volume than the inherent WindowsXp drivers. Thus I searched around and found alternative drivers for most of the creative's cards. This is called the KX project drivers and gave excellent results on my card.Hope the result is same for you also. The drivers are still in the developement stage and ucan look to it here: sorry the link is not working.I think they must have created new site.Try searching "KX project" in google. If I got correct link I will inform you.Bye

                    Daryll,

Have you tried enabling dynamic compression for the playback? The option is available on most DVD player software.

I was thinking of doing that, cause i've used it before when ripping MP3's that came out really quiet.

but i can't find it anywhere for powerdvd

Anyone suggest a dvd player where i can do that?

I posted a registry fix for the low volume of PowerDVD in the Software sub-section of the DVD forum section. You might want to check it out. It is an old post, so you need to search for posts made months ago.

And by the way, PowerDVD does support dynamic compression. Check out the attachment. It is available by accessing Configuration -> Audio tab -> Advanced. I am using PowerDVD 5, so if you are using a different version, the steps might be a little different.

                        Cheers.

oh right, yeah i've got the option, never realised that was dynamic compression.

I'll have a good sift thru for that fix.

                          thanks
