    Tmpenc - Files wrong length..?

Hello! When I load an xvid .avi into TMPEnc (v2.5) the movie time comes out as 278 minutes when it should be 110. Or another 299 when should be 119 (and so the examples go on) - Correct codecs installed too. Then, when I encode it, the file is 9gig, and has 2 or three hours of blank video at the end, then, it crashes if I try to split it.

Is there a glitch in TMPEnc or am I just doing something dum?

Daduck-Divx's are fine. Also, it won't just let me encode video, it does the sound too (and I've been told to use VitualDub instead for sync).

I have tried with different versions onf TMPenc, and with a clean XP, and W2K install. I have a P4 2.6 with 300gig spare HDD. My DVD writer is Sony DRU-510A. Any help getting me to first base would be warmly apprieciated. Thanks.

    1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub (or any of its variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

The audiostream is probably in either .AC3 format or Variable Bitrate MPEG Layer 3 (VBR .MP3).

If it proves to be .AC3:

In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...

If it proves to be VBR:

Simply use VirtualDubMOD (Different than standard VirtualDub), to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Using VirtualDubMOD to Convert "VBR" .MP3 to Uncompressed .WAV

    1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDubMOD (a different program than the standard VirtualDub)

    2) From the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Direct Stream Copy"

    3) From the "Streams" dropdown menu, select "Stream List" - and rightclick on the audio stream, then select "Full Processing Mode" - then click on "OK"

    4) Save with a new filename

OK - As instructed: Virtual Dub says:

Virtualdub has detected an improper VBR at source avi and will re-write the standard CBR values during process for better compatibility. This may be up to 28023ms of skew....

      Then... Video:
      frame size: 576*320, 23.976fps
      # of frames: 144432 (1:40:24)
      Decompressor: Xvid m-peg 4
      Number of Keyframes: 1750
      min/max/avg/total key frame size: 2014/11687/49527 (19974k)
      min/max/avg/delta key frame size: 103/4145/28029 (557583k)

      Audio:
      Sampling Rate: 48000hz
      Channels: 2 stereo
      Sample Precision: 0-bit
Compression: frauhofer IIS m-peg layer 3 codec
      Preload skew: 384 samples (0.01s)
      # of frames: 250996
      min/max/avg/total frame size: 96/415/480 (101957k)

So, do I have to find VirtualDubMOD from somewhere then?

OK - found VirtualDubMOD, and now have a .wav

So, I now have the original file, and the wav, so what next? I take it somehow I have to get a video only file, then use both to create a DVD compliant file I can burn?

How do I do that? TMPenc again? But then, wouldn't I be back to Sq1?

If, in fact, you've created a separate .WAV file (rather than a new .AVI CONTAINING a .WAV audiostream), simply FIRST load the ORIGINAL .AVI into TMPGEnc and then SECOND (sequence is IMPORTANT) load the .WAV audio file into TMPGEnc.

That's it. You should be good to go...

OK, now when I try to rip the file, I get "Invalid Pointer Error!"

                Which means....? Anyone?
