tv program capture to dvd. The complete story please!!

    Hi guys
I have just purchased WinTV 2000 xp which allows me to record tv programs (obviously!) to my hard drive.
I can capture the files in a number of formats eg MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and in either of these, normal, good or optimal quality.
I can also capture in a miriad of other formats. eg ntsc vcd or dvd , pal vcd or dvd or even uncompressed.
The question is, what format should I capture the files in and what is the process involved converting said files into a format that will allow me to burn to dvd.
    Thanks

Hullo, not heard of WinTV 2000 XP. Shall look that up.
You'll need MPEG2 for DVD compliance. Are we talking radio broadcast or satellite/cable DVB? If the latter the stream is in native MPEG2 TS as opposed to PS that DVD needs. Streams can be converted by PVAstrumento, an added complication for digital viewers!

Then you need a DVD authoring program - possibly got one with your burner? TMPGEnc DVD Author is excellent.
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

http://www.offeryn.de/dv.htm is the site for PVAstrumento.
Yes, I forgot to mention digital terrestrial. That also needs conversion!
        Happy to help
