    problem playing a video file

i downloaded a video file from a newsgroup and unpacked it using winace, and was left with a media player file.

I tried to play it in wm player and got the audio and green screen.

I tried the latest DIVX player and got a pink messy screen.

The download came with a support file that said the video had been made using DIVX and included a divx codec which i installed, rebooted my pc and still got the same results.

I loaded the file into GSPOT and it told me that i had 5 codecs that could play the video and the rendering was ok.

I also opened the file with VDUB MP3 although i got no picture i looked at the file properties using the fake files description on this site and it all looked in order.

I have lots of codecs on my pc, including the Kazaa lite codec pack.

Should i write this off as a dead file or am i missing something out.

one interesting thing is when i opened VDUP MP3 i got a warning that some of the DIVX codecs i had installed were not 'official versions'. I am about to uninstall all of the codecs from my pc and try to locate non 'pack' codecs as i have read that they are unreliable.

You could try downloading and installing ffdshow.
It worked with a couple of green video Xvid movies that I had. If not, try downloading divx 5.03 codec pack.

    Hope this helps.
