    no audio

    i downloaded a movie and opened it in mediaplayer and i got this error message.....The audio codec identified by the format tag 2000 is required to play this file.
    im new to all this and have no clue what it means....apart from the fact that i have no sound
    any help for this newbie is muchly appreciated

    You need to install the AC3 codec.

          Doom9 has an AC3 filter available for download (under the Filter section).

              oops i just checked again, im getting sound but its very low.....even when i turn it all the way up???

                I must go and do some work but spotted this thread.
                Just a thought but have you checked the other sliders in your audio mixer?
                This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

                  yes i have checked and played with all sliders.....my normal pc sounds and music are fine just the movie is low when i play it.

                    I've had a look round and came up with this thread. If it seems a bit over the top at least VirtualDubMod under File/File Information will tell you what the format is.
                    Talk about the AVI file container, and the Divx/Xvid codecs that are most commonly found in AVI files

                        Why not just bring up the volume control, and bring it back to the previous level when you're done watching? It's easier that way.

                            Check out VirtualDubMod - there is a volume adjstment under the audio menu.

                            sorry, just looked again - under 'streams' when you've loaded the file, click 'stream list', right-click the audio stream, select 'full processing', then right-click again and 'volume' is enabled. Adjust, click ok, go to video menu and click 'direct stream copy' and 'save as'?
