    green mpegs!

    Hi!

I'm pretty new to all this so please bear with me!

I'm trying to convert and .avi file to an mpeg using tmpgenc.

The avi file plays perfectly in divx player, but when i convert it in tmpgenc the mpeg file is mostly bright green and really tracey and blobby.

I also noticed that if i open the avi file in real player it looks like that also.

I've read on some forums that it may be because i have too few or too many codecs, but can't yet find a list of codecs that i should have, and ones i shouldn't....

Sadly enough i'm using a 697 mhz celeron with 256 meg of ram (work pc) with xp, but i'm pretty sure its not down to this as i've done a few conversions successfully thus far....

any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated!

    thanks!

Hi Whitewidow, welcome to the forums
A good tool for analysing codec requirements is VirtualDubMod among others. If you load your offending file into this and copy and paste here what "File Information" reveals, we may be able to help out.
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

      i'll try that now, thanks!

i've already put it through avi codec and g spot and it reckons the file is all supported...

will post my results in a sec!

      thanks!

LOL now I did say we!
Looking up (cos for the life of me I can't remember what Fraunhofer implies!)
          Anyone else out there?

hmm, Fraunhofer is mpeg3 but I don't think that helps much as your problem is with the video I guess. You could try clicking, streams, then stream list, right clicking the audio and I think Full processing, then again and Compression/mpeg layer 3.
Then under Video, select Full processing, then Compression and try something other than XVid.
Finally, File/Save as (something) and see if that cures it.
VDubMod is a very powerful little utility and I hope I've been clear.
            I make no guarantees however!

To significantly improve TMPGEnc's ability to properly process your XviD video, make certain that you have BOTH of the follwoing installed on your system:

                1) An XviD codec

                2) The FFDShow filter

Tried the VDubMod, improved the appearance of the mpeg nicely, cheers for that!

still had the odd green bit, which finally went after uninstalling nimo codec pack..

thanks loads for your help - i'm learnin!
