    DVD to DVD-R

Thank You in Advance for the help!
I bougth a DVD-R burner with the idea to transfer Dv home tapes to DVD's. Later I found that I could make back up copies of DVD's.
Questions: 1) If MPEG-2 is the only format that will render my DVD transfers from home tapes so I can get to watch them in stand alone DVD home units, will DVDit do the trick for me?
    2) I am looking for a guide to copy from DVD's to dvd-r . Let's say that I have a DVD about 8 GIG . How will it fit into a 4.7 DVD?
    Thanks and excuse my ignorance.

OK i am just as new at this as you are. Here is what I think that you are going to have to do. You need a capture card, then play the movie on your tv link it to your computer and capture it. With this you can edit the movie and make it smaller. If you need more advice on this let me know. just email me and I will tell you what I got.

NOW it seems there are alot of people on here that dont like to answer questions or just dont know. So I am going to ask you how have you maid copies of dvd's thus so far? I just got my burner (pioneer a03) 2 days ago and I am trying to learn how to make this shit work. I would assume if I created a file menue just as the dvd have and copy that over to my dvd-r it should work: provided there is enough space. Just email me and we can talk.
