    Absolute, bare minimum requirements...

Greetings all... I'm about to take a few looong plane trips in the next couple of months and I wanted to take along some of my movies to help kill time. All my backups work fine on my main PC (AMD 2100+, gig of ram, etc) AND my hacked Xbox... but they get choppy on the laptop (which is what I was going to use). I know that the minimum requirements are listed as a PII 450 w. 64mb of ram, but has anyone managed with a PII 400 w/ 128mb of ram?

There's no way I can buy another laptop, and I've got this one squeezed down pretty far. The one thing that I haven't tried is using WMP6.4 (or another other than WMP9 ~ this is on an XP system). I'm more than willing to load another OS, even Linux if this will sold my issue... just looking for the least intrusive options first.

    Thanks in advance,

    Brian

    v.imofo,

By doubling the RAM, you lessened the minimum processor speed requirement.....get it?
    Rig :

    P - 4 @ 1.7 Ghz, 768 mb (133) Ram, Intel 845 chipset M'board, Seagate 60 Gig., 5400 rpsm hdd, Maxtor 40 Gig. 7200 rpm hdd, Hauppauge 880 pvr card, etc.. O.S. - XP Home Edition.

      what a coincidence:
recently we have managed to play back Xvid files on a computer with 400 MHz and 32 megs of ram.
the player we have used was the BS payer.
note well that you install the Codecs by hand
      not using any codec pack.
also note that you have to remove all applications from the auto startup sequence.make sure that there is nothing else running in the background.
if necessary execute the msconfig in your start->execute
menu and remove superfluent programs by unchecking
these in the auto start menu.this is done by simply typing in MSconfig in your commandline in the START menu and then referring to the autostart menu.

the version used was Bplay 0.84!!!

        vimofo,

If you read the other threads, you will find that when a person doubles the minimum ram, that they can rip with a slower processor @ a faster speed than others whom have only the minimum Ram but a faster processor.

An old solution to faster computer operation was more Ram.

        Really, your 400mhz w/128mb Ram should perform @ least as well as a 450mhz w/ 64 Pam.

Do as shiny#3 stated and you really shouldn't have any real problem playing those dvd movies. Don't run other programs @ same time as playing dvd movie means : Don't ask your laptop to chew bubble gum whilst walking!

Edited as: 450 instead of 400mz.
