    how to fix avi movies

I have avi films on my hard drive which i watch on my tv through my computer, when i play them the picture stops playing but the sound continues to play, the only way i can overcome this is to stop the film and restart it past the point where it stops, can anyone tell me how to fix these films or sort out the problem,
any help would be greatly appreciated

    1) Load the .AVI file (DivX-compressed or otherwise) into the most recent version of either VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod

    2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"

    3) Select "Check for errors"

    4) Select "Mask bad frames"

    5) Save with a new filename

in addition to that I'd like to mention:

another possibility would be the use of avifix or videofixer. both are available at the software sections of this site.
of course VirtualDubMOD does have the advantage of only masking bad frames and not deleting them, but the other two programs are much easier to use.
but before you go and repair all your avi files
also I would recommend to use either the BS player or
the most admirable MV2 player and see how it works.
both players are available on the software section of this site.
if you really want to stick to Microsoft program for playing back your avi files, use the Windows media player 6.4 or the Windows media player 7.x
or at least use a little enhancement called "divx anti freeze."

but the repair method is always to be preferred
      good luck
