    1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

After the file loaded a warning box popped up with some error messages:

AVI:Invalid chunk detected at 466793746. enabling aggressive recovery mode
AVI:Keyframe flag reconstruction was not specified in open options and the video stream is not a known keyframe-only type. seeking in the video stream may be extremely slow.

Ok, now the file information is as follows:

      Video Stream
      Frame size, fps(}s per frame) 320x240, 29.970fps(33367}s)
      Length 199515 frames(1:50:57.15)

      Min/avg/max/total delta frame size 0/2523/22517(491697k)
      Data rate 605kbps(0.94% overhead)

      Audio Stream

Besides the obvious error messages that you've got to resolve, if not already done, download and install the DivX v.3.11alpha video codec and an .MP3 audio codec...

ok now i've got another problem, i downloaded a video and the file size is 155mb and when i play it on mediaplayer the timer shows only 1min 17 secs but the whole movie actually plays through for 30-40 mins. I also tried encoding it to VCD, and when i did that, the encoded file now goes for 46secs doesnt this seem wierd? the video file is an mpg. What can i do to make it play the proepr amount of time?

"ok now i've got another problem"

No, one problem at a time.

Did you download and install the indicated codecs? Did doing so resolve the problem indicated in your initial post to this thread?

I have one codec that should be able to handle the audio for this file. It is the Fraunhofer IIs MPEG Layer 3 codec(advanced)

I would suggest that you get your movies from a more reliable source than Kazaa. 99% of what you're downloading won't work, will never work, never has worked. Half of the stuff on P2P networks is encoded by the worst bunch of amatures, and the other half is encoded so it won't work, and you get to waste a ton of bandwidth for nothing.
You can spend FAR more time and money on this downloaded crap, and still end up with coasters. It's much simpler to just rent the movie.
