why do i lose audio when converting avi to mpg 1 using tmpg?
and why does audio go out of sync when merging two avi files then converting to mpg.

In TMPGEnc you must choose to create a "system file" audio+video. Your input source must also contain audio and video.

You may want to try another splitting/merging utility besides Virtualdub. Or make sure you have the latest version of Virtualdub.

Alternatively, take the out of sync file and sync it. under "Framerate" "change framerate so that audio and video match" You could also use synchronizer to manually adjust the sync.
