    Virtual Dub audio conversion

Here, another newbie with another annoying question

I followed the instruction, places here: http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/divx2vcd.html , for converting divx to vcd in order to be able to watch movies on dvdplayers but i got a problem. Specifically with the conversion of the audio of the avi file with the Virtual Dugenerated is not precisely 100% bigger but 500% bigger. I was trying with a movie from the net (if that is any help).
What i did was simply what it says: video in ¨direct stream copy¨and audio in ¨full processing¨ without compression.

Well, thanks for any hb. My problem is that the file size elp of what i might be doing wrong or if it´s just this movie (well, now that i think of it, i'll try with another).

Edit: sorry for that, didn´t about the rules ops:

    Welcome to the forum!!!

it is very refreshing to meet someone who reads an article before asking

if you have followed the tutorial closley you should have ended
up with a movie that is perfect for the use with VCD.
for a standart VCD it is the fact that the video must be in
mpeg1 1150kbits/ second and audio mpeg1 layer 2 of 224 bits/second so the size of the resulting movie is determined by its length
(running time) and not by how big the source avi was.

the tutorial you have read is still working but not exactly up to date. the divx compression has developed fast during the last year.

but. to be of any accurate help we need to know something about your original video in advance.
so realod it into virtual dub again--> go to filedropdown menue and choose "File Info" post here what it sais or simply do a screenshot and post the picture as attachment. of course
you can also use Gspot or MovieID to identify your movie and
    post what they say.

then we will be able to tell you what has gone wrong or at least
assist you in doing it correctly!

It's against the rules to refer to pirated content:

Admin: sorry for that, not again.
Shiny, thanks for the tip, didn't know that about the mpg file size... though, i had to read it 3 times to understand it So basically .avi of of different size but same lenght will have the same size when converted.

Here's the image, as good as chinese for me

your screenshot gives you the answer!

take a look at data rate.
your video is compressed at a bitrate of 390 kbits per second.
if you now convert it to video CD mpeg Stream
the bitrate is 1150 kb per second.
is almost three times as much as the original size

the mp3 audio stream will be converted to mpeg 1 layer 2
          of 224 kbits per second.
that's why you end up with such a big video CD mpg file.

the the movie itself has a running time of one hour and 19 minutes .

in mpg this file would be about 900mb

but the interim file virtual dub has generated may have
wav (uncompressed PCM) as audio stream. this is what makes the interim file so big. wav is something like audio CD format.

just think how big is an audiocd of 79 minutes lenght? about 800mb... once you have finished your conversion into MPEG
you can delete these interim files.
