problem burning all of a sudden.

Greetings, forgive my typing, im not very well at it.
    I have a Compaq persareo,
70 gig hard drive, use nero for backing up dvds.
i have been succesfully using memorex dvd+R disc, using dvd decoder-dvdshrink & nero burning rom 6.
i have an hp400 dvd burner, i defrag about once a week.
    everything was going great.
than today i got a disc error, thinking it was a new disc im trying (imation) , i tried again.
no im getting nothing but disc errors.
    it says something like this...

    "HPDVD writer 400c
    Write error
    generating dvd compatability border
    session fixation
    error
could not perform disc at once."

so i changed back to my memorex dvd+r ,
and it is saying please insert a blank disc,
i tried a few... same thing.
now im getting this error for about 8 discs now.

i even uninstalled nero & reinstalled it, with the same results.
if any one can help, please.

Sounds like a driver for you burner has become "Corrupt". Can you do a system restore and see if that remedies the problem?

Thanks for the reply, i tried a dvd and the player/burner didnt recognize it as such, played cds though.
let you know what happens, what could have caused this?

Who knows...files become corrupt from time to time. Try doing a "System Restore" as I suggested previously if you can.

Try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your burner. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10US.

If that doesn't resolve your situation, your DVD laser (many burners have two lasers, one for CDs and one for DVDs) may be out of alignment...

well, now it's not reading any disc.
after i reinstalled the drivers, it now is reading that there is no media inserted.

setarip & ormonde, thanks for your help.

setarip, unfortunatly, it only spins for a few seconds and now wont read disc so even the disc cleaner i have isnt recognized by
                  the disc drive.
well its still under warrenty, so back it goes.
thanks guys, I and all of us really appreceate your posts!

Definitely the right thing to do with a faulty NEW burner...
