Just cant play xvid!!!!

Hi AGAIN,

Sorry to bother you with what is probably easy stuff but I can not get an xvid file to play.

I have WMP 9 - div x player etc
as many codecs as i could find!!!!
virtual dub
AVIcodec
avi preview
and ffdshow!!!

I cant get this file to register with any of them!

I suppose there is a chance that it isnt an xvid file but (AVIcodec) says it is:

Video : 0.0 B, 0 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 576*304 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported

I dont want to think that it is a faulty file because i have had this problem about 3 times before but never followed it through and just dumped the file.

I thought virtual dub would be the one to fix it but nope!

can anyone please give me any help with this.

Just to follow up on this thread, I have just loaded it into GSPOT. the file is recognised and i apperently have 4 codecs capable of playing this file but not audio codecs. regardless i tried to 'render' the file and it basically told me that the file cant be played.

is it a bad file?

Sounds like a bad file to me.........."0 Kbps" looks like the problem.

Its been along time since I've messed with video files other than DVD's. From what I remember, Kbps is the bitrate of the video. When I used to mess with XviD files and etc., the common bitrate was around 800 to 1140 Kbps.

Also, I didn't notice before but, its also saying the file size is 0.0 Bytes which means, it doesn't have ANY data what so ever.

Where did that come from? cause its saying 0.0 B and 0 Kbps

I didn't know if it was like from G Spot, or Virtual Dub, etc.

well the file information that i posted previously came from AVIcodec. apparently is a prog that tells you what codecs you need to play a file and if your system has them. mine apparently has the video but not the audio codec.

surely it would play a bit if i had the right codec??

yeah.

i loaded the file into that and tried to 'render' it (as per instructions) and it said that it couldnt play it.

Depends on if the video file is corrupt or a fake.

it just intrigues me that i have a massive file that suggests its a load of rubbish!?

surely on the whole of the net, there mustbe some way of playing it??

i thought virtual dub could do it but no!
