I need help converting .avi to .mpeg (or other burnable format)

Hey, i'm using Nero to try to convert a movie from .avi to .mpeg-1 (or other burnable format).
I know I have to find the FPS, but there is no "detailed" section that I can find. Is there another way to do this.
Also this will allow me to view the movie from a CD-rom drive on my computer, or do I need a DVD drive?

Thanks a lot for all your help.

If you only desire to view the burned video on your computer (and not on your television via a standalone DVD player), there is absolutely no reason to convert your .AVI file to any other format. Simply burn it as a data disk.

yeah, I tried that, it said the file is corrupt.
Is there any way I can reduce the size of the file without making it corrupt? (I tried zipping it with winzip).

"yeah, I tried that, it said the file is corrupt."

Does the original .AVI play on your computer? If so, there's nothing about simply burning it as a data CD with NERO that's going to generate a corrupt file - unless you're burner is malfunctioning, or your version of NERO is corrupt.

Zipping it will DEFINITELY corrupt it. I hope you were sharp enough to make a backup copy before you started "experimenting" with it.

Just curious, why are you now talking of making a smaller file?

Well, the file is 699 megs and a 90 minute play time. I want to know if there is a way of burning it without editing it. Of course I made a back-up copy, I'm not THAT stupid 8)

There's no need to get defensive - all you have to do is read some of the other posts at these forums to understand why I asked the question.

            1) A 699Meg file WILL fit on an 80 minute/700Meg CD-R

            2) Again:

Yeah, but the play time is around 90 minutes. Is there still a way to burn it?
I wasn't getting defensive, I just though it would be humourous.
Yes, the original .avi plays on my computer.

Burning .AVI files to CD-Rs is based on filesize NOT time (just the opposite of MPEG files)...
