    Unknown Audio format

I have download a few Divx files from Morpheous and am having problems burning them for VCD using Nero 5.5.

When I look at the file properties it says 'unknown video format'

    The video format is 512x296, 24 bits, 172630 Framws, 25.00 frames/sec 102 KB/Sec DivX

    A second file is 576x304 83052 frames, 23.976 f/s 198KB/Sec Unknown format.......under other information it says Nandub v1.0rc2

Does anyone have any ideas please.

    Thanks

Have you made sure that you have the proper codecs installed?

      Thanks for the response.

I have the normal Divx codecs, are there any others I should be installing?

If so, where do I get them and which ones?

      I use Vdub and Tmpgenc

Load the file into VirtualDub. From under the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information".

        Post what you see listed...

On the first file, based on the fact that the audio stream contains almost twice as many frames as the video stream, it would appear that the audio is VBR (Variable Rate) MP3, which TMPGEnc cannot handle. You'll have to convert the audio to CBR (Constant Bit Rate) MP3 or WAV format. Also, you'll want to change the audio sample rate to 44,100.

The second file appears to be okay (CBR MP3 audio at 44,100)

Since I haven't as yet played with the new DivX 5.0, I can't advise whether it presents any problems for TMPGEnc (although I'd be surprised/disappointed if this proves to be the case).

By the way, what SPECIFIC problems are you having, and under which software - TMPGEnc or NERO?

Thank you for all your help.

I'm having difficultties with both pieces of software. I get an error when Nero tries to write a vcd disc and Tmpeng won't recognise either of the audio formats.

It might be too much to ask.....but how do I either extract or convert the audio files?

              Sorry to seem so ignorant!!

"how do I either extract or convert the audio files?"

You should be able to load the file into NanDub (NOT VirtualDub) and simply select "Save as WAV" from the "File" dropdown menu. Choose a new filename with a .WAV extender.(If this doesn't work for you, please advise.).

Then, with the file still loaded in NanDub, change the "Video" setting to "Direct Stream Copying" and change the "Audio" setting to "No Audio".

From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and choose a new filename (with an AVI extender) with which to save your silent video file.

You'll now have the two components required to satisfy TMPGEnc's requirements. Make certain to set the "Audio" under TMPGEnc to 44,100. Also, set the resolution (under both "Video" and "Advanced") to either 352x240 (NTSC) or 352x288 (PAL).

                Let us know of your success ;>}

P.S. The only thing that would be "ignorant" is NOT seeking new knowledge from others who may have it (My Dad always said, "The only stupid question is the one you don't ask")...
