Can any one here tell me of a program that can be used for dvd in an old pentium at 166 mHz?

No program can do that on such a slow computer. Maybe it works with a hardware-decoder-card.

I remember playing DVDs on a PII 333MHz computer and the playback was not what you would call smooth. I can't imagine trying to do the same on a 166MHz system actually.

A good old ATi Rage128 PCI can do a lot for watching DVD's on old systems at 800x600 tops.

I've found PowerDVD and a Rage128 a good combination for cheap price to quality ratio, even on old systems. The graphics card is one of the biggest slow downs before the CPU.

If your card has no Hardware DVD assist, motion composation etc then you may as well forget it.

Is your 166 mmx or not as mmx can also help a lot.

I do not think a Pentium 166 will allow for dvd playback. A dvd drive requires a graphics card (capable of decoding mpeg 2). Also, the minimum requirements for a graphics card might be high. (I think you also need special s-video slots though I'm not sure).

I know what an S-VHS output/input is, enlighten me I have a need to know.

Probably the same thing, I talk too much. I read an article on how to add a dvd drive to a pc, I have a P 200. I realized than that an s-something output is neccesary. I didn't have that. Also I needed an mpeg 2 decoder card. Needless to say, I didn't have that. Search the article at pcworld.com Sorry I can't provide further help
