How do I play DVD-R files

    Hi yall

I have zip experience with dvd-r files. I found about 95 dvd-r files and want to play them. It would be nice to merge them all into one file, convert to .avi, and burn to cd. Any help wud be appreciated!

Hello and welcome to the forums. I'm a bit confused as to what it is that you are trying to accomplish. do you desire to "Convert" a DVD file structure (IFO, BUP, VOB) into an AVI (DivX or XviD)?

Thanx for the qwik reply, ormonde. Some more info on my problem:

      1) I do not have a dvd burner
      2) The dvd-r files have a .rar extension[dvdr-zz.part001.rar]
      3) I'd like to be able to view them on my home dvd player

Any hope getting these files to play with my setup...even on my pc wud be acceptable.

Use WinRAR to decompress the files that you found...

WinRAR created a 4.2 Gb .img file that PowerDVD does not recognize. Do I need to convert it to another file type and if yes, how?

"WinRAR created a 4.2 Gb .img file that PowerDVD does not recognize"

If it is an ISO image, you will first have to use a program such as "Daemon Tools" to mount the image to a virtual drive so you can read it.

DaemonTools (previously suggested by "ormonde") will also allow you to mount other types of image files, in addition to .ISO. It should allow you to mount .IMG files and .NRG files. Once mounted, it will be seen as a "package" of DVD files, addressable by PowerDVD.

As an alternative to DaemonTools, you can use ISOBuster...

              Let us know of your success ;>}

We're getting close, guys. Isobuster extracted the .img file and I dropped the folder on my desktop. PowerDVD will play the files...video is fine but the voice track volume is so low I can barely hear it. The other audio tracks are working ok.

                Keep it coming, guys!

Thanx for the help so far.

Updated info: WinAmp plays the .mpg file just fine. How do I compress the file size(2.4G) to get it on a single 800Mb CD? I'm still trying to get it to my home dvd player somehow...I don't have a dvd burner...waiting for the new format(blue ray) to come out as standard.

Try using a program called "Rejig".

Another option would be to use "TMPGEnc" (Different than "TMPGEnc DVD Author") to convert to VideoCD ("VCD")...
