is there a way to capture\download video files
and edit them by using just a software (no hardware)
i do not wish to open my computer to install a video card.
is it at all possible to get a software to both transfer the videos
from my camcorder onto my hard drive and to edit them as well?

You will need a Firewire card (or at least an USB port with the appropriate software) to capture though.

Belkin do a nice video capture unit that you just plug in your USB port as Enchanter mensioned above.

It's called a "Belkin USB VideoBus" I used one with an old iMac once and is Mac and PC compatable.

Try and make sure it's the only thing attached to your USB channel though as it needs all the bandwidth it can get.
