sound but no picture..... HELP!!!!

I have a windows media player version 6.4. It plays divx movies and for some reason when I try to play this one movie, only the sound works, there's no picture. I believe I have to download a new codec, but I'm new at this and I need a step by step instructions on how to download the missing codec and where to download it at. Could someone out there help this rookie and help me fix my problem.

Install 3.11a and 4.x.

If you don't have WMP7, get it installed as well just so that the installation will add a few codecs that may help you with the playback problem. I had one such problem and installing WMP7 solved it (Yes. I already had the DivX codec installed at that time).
