Help required editing a sequence for a show

Hi, I am in the process of organising a display for my degree show and need to have a DVD playing a loop of a sequence cut from a film. I have access to the film in DVD format and on my PC in DivX.

I would be very grateful if someone could tell me a) which would be easier to work with and b) how best to go about it.

I guess I could either edit the DivX file and convert it back to DVD (if thats possible) as I doubt the player supports DivX. Or edit the DVD directly.

As you can probably tell i'm new to video editing and could really do with some help with this.

    Thanks.

What are you ultimately going to play it on?
If a PC, then you're not compelled to DVD format and an mpeg (or DivX mebbe) running in 'loop mode' in say Windows Media Player might do?
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

Sorry, should have been more clear. It will be played on a DVD player.

      Thanks.
