1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into VirtualDub, VirtualDubMOD, or NanDub
      2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
      3) Move slider to the desired starting point
      3) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
      4) Move slider to the desired ending point
      5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
      6) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End'
      7) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save with a new filename (e.g. "Clip1.avi").

thanks for replay but i still have the problem

i tried with VirtualDub (ver 1.5.10) and VirtualDubMod (ver(1.5.10.1) and it doesn't work (on my pc)
when i try to open video, both softs give me following massage:

couldn't locate compressor for format 'xvid' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

I have xvid codec installed (I can watch the movie)
I also tried with several movies, each with different codec: divX, Xvid, div3

        any advice?

Uninstall your version of XviD, and download and reinstall a newer version.

Open the file in Gspot. It's possible it's the audio that's the problem here.

you may want to install "koepi's latest build" of xvid 1.0.3 if you haven't already....
