Converting mov to avi

Hi all! Newbie here 4 sure. Just when I thought I was getting a handle on this new pc....I am stumped again.
I am using Windows XP Home and just started creating with windows movie maker.
How do I convert Quicktime (mov) files to avi or whatever type of file that can be imported to Movie Maker?
Also what about converting Realmedia files to an importable file? Which file mpeg 2,3,5....do I use?
any help is appreciated...or suggestions on sites....

Use "TMPGEnc" (DIfferent than "TMPGEnc DVD Author") with the QT Reader plugin

Use the "EO Player" (Don't be misled by the name - it's a conversion program, as well)

ok, now I am stumped agin. Please help.
I seem to be recording mpegs that show a dark screen while they are being converted....and when I try and download them to view from the folder....the same black screen shows up....
Also, I would prefer them to be in avi format for converting....is that possible?

Introduction

mov2AVIgui is a simple GUI front-end for the MOV2AVI command-line converter by James Holderness. mov2AVIgui also adds batch support allowing the processing of multiple files in a single pass.


Installation and Useage Tips
============================
mov2AVIgui doesn't really need any special installation, just put the file where you want it to reside and run it.

mov2AVIgui requires that mov2AVI, QuickTime and the Quicktime Authoring Component (optional component of the Quicktime installation) be installed on your system before it will work. If you place "mov2avi.exe" in a different folder than the folder containing "mov2avigui.exe", you will need to specify the location of "mov2avi.exe" when you first run mov2AVIgui.

Uninstalling mov2AVIgui
========================

Just delete the following files from the directory where you placed mov2AVIgui:

+ mov2avigui.exe
+ mov2avigui.ini

I am trying to convert Quicktime .mov files to a format to use to import to windows movie maker....I believe that avi or mpeg will work there. Any suggestions on what imports the easiest?
your input is greatly appreciated...

Qtime has an exporter (if you have the pro version). It works fine.

Just so you're not confused by the posting by "blutach", and his/her penchant for abbreviating things:

1) "Qtime" is a database program - and has nothing to do with your situation

2) Quicktime Pro is a COMMERCIAL product from Apple

When I download mov2avi with winzip.....and try to open it....all it does is flash on the screen and goes away. So, I am unable to view/use it. Help!

After unzipping, look for a file on your hard drive named "MOV2AVI.EXE"...
