    Problem with DVD player

I installed a dvd player for my computer about a year ago. it worked fine for watching dvs (and burned ones), but I noticed a few months ago that the DVD player wasn't getting power. It wouldn't open. I took it out, and it appeared that the faceplate was stuck. I fixed that, but now when I hook it back up, it still won't open. Is there a setting that I should change, so that the computer reconizes it? I'm using Windows XP. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

do the lights on the front of the dvd player blink when you start your pc. if so I would assume you are getting power to the drive. with the power cord to the pc unplugged check the power cord to the drive for tightness.

To see if it is the drive for sure, hook up another drive to that same channel it was on and see if it works. If it does, that drive is toast. If it doesn't, something is wrong in your wiring.
