media/compatiblity issue more than likely. VERY common problem.

    there are some basic things.

    1) use compatible, QUALITY media (see link below)

    2) update firmware

    3) burn no higher than 4x

    also, does the disc skip on your pc? that standalone zenith maybe doesn't like that disc type. the trick is to find a media that works well in your burner and dvd player. see here for player compatibility;

When I bought my Zenith i made sure it had the features to play DVD+/-R's and all that fun stuff, its not just my dvd player I have a Oritron up stairs and my girls Panasonic, and 2 Apex's don't play them past chapter 16 either.

yes, media tends to be the "weakest" at the outer edges, especillay cheap stuff. this is why some (including myself), adjust the files so they only fill about 95% of the disc.

Do you think by any chance it could be my burning program? DVD Cloner II, I hae Nero it came with my burner. Should I use this instead? Because its so annoying that they just stop in between. am I missing a step in the process. I don't know what the hell is going on lol... I burned all these DVDs and half of them are just coasters now. my burner is a Sony DRX-710UL.....I just don't understand how it players up to the middle then freezes. Do you think its the speed? I usally use 8x disc's, But when i burn from Cloner it doesn't give me an option speed.

            definetly.

"But when i burn from Cloner it doesn't give me an option speed."

this is reason enough, you'll fare better as far as help goes if you use nero to burn. i'd do a test on rw disc (using NERO) and see what happens, then you could post a log. very possible it is the speed at which those discs were burned causing you this trouble. be sure this isn't just the zenith doing this...

here is your dvd writer, note the media section.

in my opinion the best guides are in nero itself. click "help"

I would follow colubo's advice. use nero and get better media. cheap media tends to give errors close to the edge, why you would get the errors at that point in the movie especially on all players. also do as columbo stated and compress the dvd a little more maybe to app 4.2gb.

If your backup freezes, stutters, skips, or has some pixelation, it is more than likely due to poor quality media being used. Cheap media is poorly manufactured around the edge of the disc, hence the reason why it mostly skips or freezes from the middle toward the end of the movie. The two main things to consider first are:
                    • Is it cheap media that you are using? (ie. some off brand you bought at a local computer store/fair, even a store like Circuit City or Best Buy sells cheap low quality media.)
                    • How fast are you burning? - Burn no faster than 4X, might have to go down to 2X with really cheap media.

Also, are you using adhesive labels on your back ups? If so, try removing the labels (if you can) and playing them again. Go here for more info on why not to use labels. - http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...threadid=28604

You can go here for some other possible solutions: http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...threadid=44912

Also try lowering outcome the "Target DVD size".

Open DVD Shrink. Click "Edit", then "Preferences". On the first tab at the top in the drop down box, change it from "DVD-5 (4.7GB) to "Custom" and enter a number of 4200MB (4464MB is burning to the edge of the disc, you want to stay away from the edge as the edge of cheap media (disc's) are poorly manufactured).
