    Cutting Avi and Divx files

    Hello everyone,

Can anyone out there tell me what I am doing wrong, or just not doing. I want to simply cut my divx or avi's in half, and I tried using virtual dub. Is there a way to cut the files without them expanding ten times bigger. I just want to make them viewable, but shorter, and at the smaller file size.

    Thanks

When you cut in vdub, both audio and video must be set to direct streamcopy.

But I you ask me AviSplitCalc is a far better cutting tool.

      Thank you

      Thank you,

And I tried the program you have just recommended. It seems it is only compatible for a select group of .avi files. It does not like my divx, and will not work with them. I will try again.

Going back to virtual dub, it works, but expands the size a lot of the cut portions. Could it be my settings???

I will keep on looking. Thanks again.

As khp stated, set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying". The sum of the pieces will then be no greater than the original...

          Thank you setarip

          Thank You setarip.

I tried it on streaming and it worked.

I now have a differential with sound and video. It shows it upwards of a difference of 10000 frames, weird. This is a seperate issue. I found a walkthrough.

          Thanks again.

This is probably because your avi contain vbr audio, you need to cut the avi with nandub.
