Can anyone help me please!!!!!!!

I am new to all this,

I have downloaded 2 files (MPG & AVI from multi web sites) on to my Windows XP Machine, via Broadband phone line.

What quality can I expect to have, when I copy them on to a DVD Disc to view on my TV?? Is one better than the other.!!

I have Burned the MPG file but the quality is not very good, Picture a bit jumpy also sound is not quite in sink.

Based on your experience, I'd say these are not particularly high quality. It all depends on your source material - if the stuff was published for the web, then the quality is going to be lousy. Don't expect DVD quality unless it's a DVD!

the quality of the dvd you make will never surpass that of the original file.

garbage in garbage out. you can try using filters to improve the quality but you will usually see a trade-off. ie trying to smooth out macro blocks will tend to lose some detail in other scenes.
