Concerning episode DVDs

im like really new... 10 hours new. i used the dvd shrink thing and got it off. but sence it has two languages when i try to play it wont let me use the menu screen to chose anything it just plays threw the different ones in the home music... im really new and i think its because it broke it down into different videos instead of just one big program of video... tell me whats wrong plz. oh and the two languages are japanesse and english but u can have chinesse a subtext
