Hi,my plextor px708A doesnt read/write any brand of CDs (reads Writes DVDs).can anybody help me?

well firstly I would recommend a firmware update to the latest. This is assuming it hasnt got the latest 1.11

Please update with no media in drive.

Please run the Pxinfo and post the log as a text attachment... I will look at it.

This log is a standard Information tool for further support with Plextor... Within europe (most Countries) Plextor Operates a 2 year warranty (not sure if this applies to your PX-708A model) But if it does they will send you a new drive via post and you will return the defective drive to them.

This of course is subject to filling out the RMA (Return Manufacturer Authorization) form.

But for now please perform the update as requested and post that log here please.

If possible please insert one of the CD media your trying to burn after the update and wilst you iniciate the log request.

PXinfo

Receiving error message like this: fail to upload file,when trying to attach Pxinfo into the reply.

Right... Once you run the PXinfo you save the results into a log file then your on the manage attachtments on the forum (advanced) browsing for and uploading the log called SYSInfo which is a text file, right?

If this still gives you errors the just cut and paste the contents of that file....

remember where it saved
open and click your mouse button and drag
to select the top part then right click copy
and paste(another right click) into reply here

Have you tried burning a cd after the firmaware update?

the only thing I can see straight out there is that ROXIO and NERO dont like each other very much...

Nero have a fix for the UDF control issue with Roxio but it is suppose to work (apparently) with INCD software...

You can try it by downloading it and giving it a go...

I think ultimatly the best guess is to uninstall Roxio (puah!) and make sure all traces of it are gone.... But give that tool a go for me please...

Hi Floppy, não sou portugês mas neto,sou angolano,acho que o meu drive veio de fabrica com defeito não consigo reenvia-lo porque fica mais caro do que o comprei pois vivo em Africa e aqui não ha representante Plextor.

Acho que o detalhes nao teen importancia... de qualquer maneira venhas daqui ou acola somos do mesmo sangue....

E pena que o teu HDD tenha qualquer falha... Eu acho que a conjuncao de Nero e Roxio teen a culpa na maioridade dos casos.... Isto nao quer dizer que eu esteja errado....

Pois tenta livrar-te do Roxio (so porque penso que o Nero seja o melhor dos dois) e diz qualquer coisa....

DVD burners have two lasers: one for DVD and the other for CD.

If you have problems only with CD, then probably your CD laser is broken.

If the burner is still in warranty, you should return it to get a substitution

If you decide to buy a new one because it is too expensive to post your faulty drive to Plextor I recommend the PX716a....

However meu Irmao I think you could still try Plextor and theire support you never know they may not require you to send in the faulty drive.... And you just pay for a new one?? making it way cheaper...

I would give it a try since I have no idea of how expensive it is to buy or post in comparison from Angola...
