Read Blutachs DMA post, need help

Hi, this is my first post, I am a genuine newbie, I looked at Blutachs signature, and decided to try to learn basic information from those links before doing anything.

This post is regarding my settings for DMA, i'm a little confused, so help would be appreciated.

I went under device manager, IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers, and selected primary IDE channel, and proceeded to look if the DMA settings were set the same as the pictures in Blutachs DMA post entitled "Whats all this about DMA?"

Here's what my primary IDE channel's properties look like:

Device 0

DEVICE TYPE: AUTO DETECTION
Transfer Mode: DMA if available
CURRENT TRANSFER MODE: ULTRA DMA MODE 5

Device 1
DEVICE TYPE: AUTO DETECTION
TRANSFER MODE: DMA if available
CURRENT TRANSFER MODE: Not Applicable (red highlight is my emphasis)

In the picture used in Blutachs DMA post, Current transfer mode should read ULTRA DMA MODE 5 also, right????

Here's what my Secondary IDE channel's properties look like:

Device 0
DEVICE TYPE: AUTO DETECTION
TRANSFER MODE: DMA if available
CURRENT TRANSFER MODE: ULTRA DMA MODE 2

Device 1
DEVICE TYPE: AUTO DETECTION
TRANSFER MODE: DMA if available
CURRENT TRANSFER MODE: PIO MODE (red highlight is again my own emphasis)

I deleted both the primary and secondary IDE channels, and restarted, and set everything as DMA if available, and have the exact same settings.

Am I missing something here?

Not applicable means there is no device connected.

PIO is the one to worry about. What is connected as Secondary Slave?

Okay, interesting question.

The only other drive that i had prior to installing this I/oMagic DVD Burner, was a plain Cdrom drive. I noticed that the cdrom drive is selected for cable select.

I put the dvd burner under slave.

Run the Nero Infotool utility, you will see what devices are connected to what adapters in the the initial "retrieving information" window, to be sure. Like Blu said the PIO mode is the one to be worried about, install the updated drivers for this device, if not already done so.

Best you swap them over. Pop the DVD Burner as secondary master and set it that way.
