Getting rid of logos and onscreen news flashes on recorded TV

I record a lot of TV programs for my DOM (86) who lives in rural area and can't get a lot of programs.

Plenty to choose from on my cable system, but the problem is when my local channels fill up the bottom and side of tv screen with weather info etc. Very irritating to say the least. And most have a logo such as "Fox 4" in the lower right corner. Is there any way to filter out this stuff?

    Thanks.

        jmet,

Incredible guide! I installed VirtualDub and De-logo filter. Already had PSP6, but am hopeless using that too. Been trying to make a tiff with transparent background for weeks now. Guess it can't be done. My DVD printing software doesn't support gifs.

Anyways, thanks much for the guide! It may be a few days until will have time to work on the logos.
