    Trash it or upgrade.

My computer is having difficulties capturing mpeg2.Ya know, sound not keeping up, video jumps. I'm pretty sure it's due to the lack of beefiness of my system. The specs are listed below. Would a better harddrive do the trick? Can I somehow get a SATA drive without a new mobo? Also can my rig handle a dual layer burner?

Seems fine to me, although two HDD on different IDE's will increase performance during ripping and encode.

Unfortunately, it’s not fine. LOL. No good mpeg2 capture. Would the double HD bump help? (I get confused……you said encoding…….? J )<o></o>

I'm sure your rig can handle a DL burner but the CPU is very slow for doing video work. Make sure your DMA is on.

I doubt your mobo will support SATA drive.

You should only use genuine Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media. Many thanks to www.pcx.com.au for their supply and great service.

DMA is on. Thanks for the info.
I researched my mobo and the only cpu upgrade is older AMDs up to 2ghz.
Perhaps I'll just buy a new mobo+cpu combo. What would be the cheapest I could get away with(to capture mpeg2 without mess), and where do you recommend buying? Preferably I'd like a dealer that will ship it put together. Installing cpus and heatsink stuff sounds tricky. lol

Are you saying, buy one of those and then put it in a new computer?

Just lookin for options to make mpeg2 capturing possible on my current rig.

P.S. Maybe I misunderstood you Chewy. I'm newbie, easily lost.

wait for anony. to comment, but my intent was for you to possibly get something that would work ok in the old computer but even better in the new
                computer, if that's possible

First Chewy........sorry I see now. lol. I could use it now and when I get new PC. Got it. Thank you!

I am using either Arcoft Showbiz or ATI TV program (record option).
Source, cable in or composite. My video card has all kinds of hookups. I can capture mpeg1s well. (Made a lot of VCDs)
But now, I'm ready for the big leagues and want to just capture mpeg2 straight for DVD authoring.
I am looking for cheapest/reliable way to accomplish with my current rig.
Many people have suggested getting something like an external hardware converter and let it do the work.
