Do these two other stand-alones support playing DVD-R? Check VideoHelp to see. If they do support the DVD-R media then you'll have to look to see if the DVD-R was formatted as DVD-ROM or DVD-VR. My Pioneer DVR allows me to format both, yet none of my stand-alones play the VR format.

Let us know what you find out.

I had the same problem with my new DVD recorder. I solved the issue by reading the owners manual, Turns out after you have recorded all you want to on the disc you need to put it back into the recorder and "finalize" the disc. Finalizing the disc takes a few minutes, after wich you should be able to play the disc in any stand alone player.

check your manual for how to do this process

Funny, I just run into this this weekend. I had recorded tons of shows before, but never tried them on another machine. Apparently when it finalizes after a show, it isnt a FULL finalize. Worked super after the three minute procedure.

Usually go into Tools when the disc is loaded, and find Disc Info. It should be in there

I concure, and forgot about that finalize process. My DVR too has this feature that must be done in order for it to be read. DVD-VR still won't play even when it's finalized because my stand-alones don't recognize that format. But you do have to finalize it! Good call guys!

thakns guys for the info talked to my mom and she said it does finalize but she reeading the manual and something about its finalizing or recording in dvd-video format. which maybe be the same prob Cambion had. so i told her to call Panasonic and see what the deal was. they took like 15 dvd's to florida and none played. she did schack them in the recorder and they played there so i think its a format problem.
Thanks again and ill update later.

Bingo it wasnt fully finalized or something like it she had to go into a menu and finalize it and then tried in a portable and that solved it.
