Help! DVD burner not playing DVD's!

Ok, I'm totally new to this.

I had my DVD burner installed, which also came w/ the Nero 6 suite. The CD's play and can be burned, however, the DVD's will not play at all. I have been on the internet all day trying to figure out why... thus far, I have figured out (and I realize I could be wrong) that I need a decoder. Is this correct?

I went to another thread talking about codecs. I'm not sure what that means or if it has relevance to my problem.

So basically, any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

what program did you use to rip the files from the dvd??

That Nreo that came bundled with the burner need to be updated- it's usually a limited package.

Have you tryed only one DVD?
Can the writer play any DVD at all?

What software do you have for watching DVD's did it come with Power DVD?
Nero is for burning.
