Please help the noob so I can go back to lurking!

Hiya. I am a bit of a tech idiot and a noob here to boot.
I can't seem to find region codes for my Coby 224 dvd player. I didn't think I would ever need codes for it- I had bought the player brand new off EBay and it was advertised as being a region free player- I wasn't sure about that when I opened the box- there was the region 1 globe symbol on the back- so I was so happy to see it did indeed play my dvds from the UK. Well...all was fine for about...3 months...then whammo! Now I keep getting the error message saying WRONG REGION DVD! WAAAH! May I please have some help? Thank you!

Here is the procedure:
Press “Set up” and release,
Press Vol +, Vol-, Vol +, Vol -,
Number shows up
Change to 255 (All region) using right arrow
Press “Set up” again.
you have to press and release “Set up” and not hold it to access the zone selection menu.

kevdriver- you rock. Thanx so much. Much appreciated- now I can go try the codes so hopefully I can get Dad off my back about him not being able to see his "Last Of The Summer Wine" dvds!
