    video but no audio!?!?!

i have just used TMPgenC to convert a .AVI file to Mpeg-1 in order to make a VCD.

However, there's no audio on the converted file????

before and after the converting, the files looked like this:

    video source: D:\Moviez\Black Hawk Down\Black-Hawk-Down-CD1.avi
    Audio source: D:\Moviez\Black Hawk Down\Black-Hawk-Down-CD1.avi

Now for the Question.....Why is there no audio on the Black-Hawk-Down-CD1.mpg file?????

Hope someone can help me with this problem

      For a compliant MPEG1-VideoCD, the combined (video+audio) bitrate should total 1,374Kbps - in this case, 1,150 +224

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following has no bearing on the lack of audio output, but is applicable to compliant MPEG1-VideoCD:

      1) Did you set the mode under the "System" tab to "MPEG1-VideoCD" rather than plain vanilla "MPEG1"?

      2) Resolution should be 352x240 (NTSC) or 352x288 (PAL)

      3) Does the .AVI play with audio all the way through?

      4) What version of TMPGEnc are you using?

      5) In order to possibly further understand the cause of your problem, do the following:

      A) Load the original .AVI file into VirtualDub

      B) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

      C) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

        video but no audio!?!?

        1. No, it was set to MPEG-1 system (automatic)
        2. I have reset the resolution to fit the numbers you specified.
        3. Yes, it does.
        4. I'm using TMPgenc ver. 2.5
        5. i do not yet have virtualdub, can you suggest a good downloadsite????

Should i try to convert the file again based on the changes i have made, or should i wait for virtualdub to download (if i can find it)???

The file appears to include a Variable Bit Rate (VBR) MPEG Layer 3 (.MP3) audiostream, which TMPGEnc cannot process properly. Do the following to create a modified version of your .AVI that should be acceptable to TMPGEnc:

Simply use VirtualDub to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Load your original .AVI into VirtualDub
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save WAV" (Enter a new filename with a ".WAV" extender).Click on "OK"
Then set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
Then save the .AVI as a silent .AVI (set "Audio" to "No audio" after you've saved the WAV file).

Then close VirtualDub and restart it
            Set "Audio" to "No audio"
            Load your silent .AVI
Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
Under "Audio" click on "WAV Audio" and load your .WAV
Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Compression" and choose the appropriate .MP3 settings. Click on "OK"
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and save your file with a new filename.

            Let us know of your success ;>}

****When you say choose the appropriate MP3 settings, what are the appropriate settings? If I select Mpeg - Layer 3 the nothing appears in the list on the right, I have to tick the box "show all formats", I then select the top audio from that list (56kbits/s 24,000hz/stereo 7kb/s) I press ok and go to save as *.avi and get the message "Audio decompressor could not be found to decompress the source audio format"***
