    AVI - DVD; Advice please

Discovered this site and forum a few days ago. Excellent advice and resource, thank you!

I have, what I think, is a simple question, which I hope some of the more knowledgeable and experienced members here can give advice on.

I have a DVD player (Toshiba) which plays AVI/MPEG4 files. Is there any benefit in me converting those AVI files I have into DVD (MPEG2?) format, or should I simply burn them onto a DVD and play them directly from there?

If anyone can briefly list the pro's / con's it would be appreciated.

Apologies if this has been asked before, I did do a brief search but could not find the answer.

the only pro i would see to encoding to mpeg2 is adding custom menus. otherwise definitely keep them as mpeg4-- much faster process, no quality loss and more content on a single disc
