    regular fractional pause

    Using TMPGEnc (ver12d) I have encoded about 10 AVIs to VCD...when playing them on my standalone DVD player they all stop about every 2 seconds for just a fraction of a second, you can still watch the movie, but its annoying that its not smooth. Am I doing something wrong during the encoding process?

    I also encoded 3 SVCDs and one of them plays perfectly smooth, but the other 2 have the regular fractional pause like the VCDs...

    thanks for your help?

    Have you cleaned your CD burner recently? If not, you should purchase a CD/DVD cleaning disk (Maxell majes one that cost about $10US) and run it for about two minutes on Track 2.

    Let us know of your success ;>}

      Is the media (cd-r disc) the same? Does the cd-r manufacturuer differ in the succesful one from the unsuccesful ones?

        I'll purchase the cleaner...

        CD-R media is exactly the same...I did notice that the bitrate I used to encode is above 1600 (threshold for quality?) on the one SVCD that is smooth. btw, all of the AVIs used were downloads.

        thanks for the responses

          OK...found out something else...

          I am encoding using TMPGEnc to SVCD PAL, then burning using VCDEasy (for VCDs, I encode to VCD then burn using EasyCD). The one SVCD that was smooth came from an AVI that was 25 fps...PAL. I did a bit more digging and found one VCD I had burned from an AVI that was 25fps...guess what, it plays smooth also. So digging around more, I found out that those VCDs and SVCDs sourced from AVIs with 23.97 fps played close to smooth and the ones sourced from 29.97 fps paused the worst.

          Any suggestions on getting the NTSC sourced AVIs to play smooth when encoded to VCD or SVCD?

          p.s. My standalone will play either PAL or NTSC...
