Please Help With Subtitles

I'm an extremely extremelish newbie, I only know (and have used so far) how to use cladDVD XP 1.3 which apparently rips the movies from the DVD's and automatically creates the audio mp3 and then I was taught to use Tempgenc Plus 2.54 to combine the above to a movie, My problem is that I want to incorporate subtitles to my movies and I can't quite use Flask Mpeg (in another thread they mentioned that they used that one), Is there a way to make the VCD's with tempgenc and have subtitles or do I have to use something else? if so then what should I do (If you can give me extremely detailed instructions or a site that has them I would be greatful) oh and by the way I don't know what DivX is so I couldn't understand a tutorial there was from another message
