    Confused, ripping DVD to AVI

    Hello,

Im new to all this and Im very confused. I want to take one of my favorite DVDs and be able to watch it on my computer in AVI format. But I dont know what kind of software I need. I dont understand if I need to encode, rip, or both. Whats a VOB file? Can anyone please tell me what software I need to go from DVD to AVI, and where I can find it please? Also, a program that gives me approx file size of the AVI before I make it would be good, so I can keep track of my HD space.

    Thanks a lot,
    Spetz

Click on "Digital Digest" at the very bottom of the page - and check out the many "how-to" articles at the DVDDigest and DivXDigest sites...

Well you can start by downloading the
Smartripper to extract the dvd to your hard disk
DVD2AVI to give it an .avi extension
VFAPI converter to make it fake .avi so windows media player can recognize it(because if it doesn't you can't do anything even if you are not going to use media player to watch the movie-bug?)
Graph edit to make sound and virtualdub to make the movie and the audio come true.
