Problem in conversion .dat to divx

Thank you folks for the help you have extended last time when I was here to get help from you all and I got all my problem solved.

Now I got movie CD from one of my friend whcih is of size 555mb.
To reduce it to half I wanted to use vdub latest version 1.4.9.

When I try to read the file by 'open video file', Vdub starts reading the file but after reading about 10%, it gives an error message-'MPEG import filterack synchronisation error' and stops.

what is wrong? Is the file got corrupted? The file palys very well in Win Media plyer without any problem. Is there any method to correct this error? Is there any other software to do so?

That is usually indicative of an MPEG2 file, which VirtualDub cannot handle (only .AVI and MPEG1).

By the way, I believe the most recent version of VirtualDub is 1_4_10...
