    Pictures on VCD troubles

I told my friend that I would make a slideshow for her from the pictures she has. Turns out, all the pictures were burned to a VCD and then deleted off the computer, so all the pictures are only on the VCD. Problem is, it won't let me copy-paste the .DAT files to another folder to rename it to .mpg so I can split it where the pictures I need are. The VCD won't even play in Media Player.

This is the message I keep getting when I try to copy it:

    So...what should I do?

Thanks for your reply, but I downloaded Isobuster and it is extracting the files, but when I rename to .mpg the file won't play or import into movie editing software. I've tried every option on Isobuster and none of them are working. I think that whoever burnt the CD may have compressed it wrong or something, so what do I do for that? I'm stilll going to continue reading about Isobuster, in case something tells me what to do....

Try to open it with GSpot. That will tell you what codec will open it, if any. You can just drag the file to it.

thank you for your response. I downloaded it, the vid is an "unsupported file type". I then downloaded a converter, thinking that maybe if I convreted it, the vid would work. However, the converter won't even convert it. So I think I'm basically out of options unless you guys can think of anything else. Should I just give up on this and throw out the damn VCD?

Before you toss it you might give http://www.vcdgear.com/index.html a try. Free. Convert your .dat to Mpeg.

Just a thought, I have not used this for awhile.

PS. Just reran an old VCD thru VCDGear works fine. Remember VCD=Mpeg1

            Hope this helps.

Don't throw anything out... if it's important, save it.
JUST save it as data and the type it will save (i've saved many a unknown media type) mark it and just file it for later use. Keep looking.. keep searching.. you'll find the answer.

Ok...thank you both for your reply...

Forgive me if I sound like a total idiot, but I set VCDGear to change a .dat to a .mpeg but it keeps saying it can't find mpeg stream. so now what do i do? cuz it seem slike this might actually work!
man...so much trouble just for one little VCD!

I always read my VCD form the disk. Start VCDGear, Insert disk, set to .dat to .mpeg, on VCDGear load, browse to your VCD, Dir "MPEGUU", double click "AUSEQ01", set save path to HD, Start.

Let me know if this does it for you, Good luck.

Edit: you may need to use IsoBuster to move it to your HD 1 st, reread thread, and noted you could not copy it to your HD. Do not rename before you run VCDGear.
Edit: I have never tryed this, but you may also want to try Raw to .mpeg. (check out the Doc., FAQ you may find something else that may help)
