Help! DVD ripped, how do i convert it???

i tried reading the guides in the sticky post on this forum, but they turned out broken links after their intro pages.

I ripped a dvd to my computer, and so i have some .VOB .IFO and some .BUP files. i want to conver the dvd to mp4, or avi, or divx...just something like that.

If possible, i also want the program to be free..duh
and i want to be able to decide the quality of the finished product. if anyone could help me with this, i would Really Really appreciate it.

Erm, exactly why do you need to convert to another format? There are 2 good free conversion programs-one is SUPER, and the other is Dr Divx. I found SUPER mentioned here on the board, enter it in the search box to locate the link. It's fast, and permits adjusting bitrate while converting. And Google for Dr Divx.

spencerstock, I'd give StaxRip a try:
StaxRip is a powerful video/audio encoding GUI for Windows. It executes and controls console apps such as x265, mkvmerge, ffmpeg, etc.

It takes a while to acclimate to the interface but you can produce good-looking xvid using "quality mode" in one pass. Plus it allows you to crop or trim the video before conversion. (It's common to convert a DVD5 to about a 1 1/4 gig .avi file.)

The other thing about it, is it can be picky about which versions of freeware tools it likes. So to start, use its downloader tool to get all the auxiliary programs it needs. After that it's a matter of experimentation if you can update avisynth or another program without breaking it. But it definitely works out of the box on Windows XP.

sweet, thanks a lot for your help guys. I've already tried out divx doctor, and after i converted the file, and played it in divx player, it seemed that the audio was playing in 2x speed while the video was playing in normal speed. i'm gonna try out all the programs you guys suggested to see which i like best...

the reason i'm trying to do this, in the end i want to be able to put a dvd onto my zune. the supported video types on the zune is MPEG-4, WMV and H.264. the screen resolution is 320x240. if anyone could give me any tips on an easier way to accomplish this, it would really help me out. thanks again for all your help so far.
